DUNBAR SCHOOL FOUNDATION, INC.

OUR GOAL

The Dunbar School Foundation is dedicated to the preservation of the Dunbar School.  The Marion County Board of Education donated the building to the Dunbar School Foundation after it closed the building in 2007.  Since that time, the foundation has worked together to maintain the building and plan for its rehabilitation

SAVE A BUILDING, INVEST IN A COMMUNITY

The Dunbar School Foundation's is working to restore the building as a recreational and community center that focuses on the region's cultural heritage.

Volunteers recently patched the leaking roof which had damaged the original maple floor in the gymnasium.  Now that the roof is repaired, volunteers are coming in to help repaint the interior of the building while the mechanical systems are replaced.

It is our hope that the gymnasium's use will provide funds to continue the building's rehabilitation.  Once the building is ready for use, our ultimate goal is to establish a museum dedicated to Fairmont's African American heritage.

Please consider a donation to help protect this building and its story for the future generations.
